Angelina Jolie smiles at 'Maleficent' premiere

Angelina Jolie to Return For ‘Maleficent 3’

Angelina Jolie will return to our screens as the villainous lead in Maleficent 3!

The news about the actor (also a director, refugee advocate and philanthropist) was confirmed in a new profile with WSJ Magazine. No other details were shared about what we can expect or who else might be returning and Disney hasn’t made an official announcement just yet.

However, the publication confirmed that Angelina is committed to the project along with producing The Outsiders, a Broadway show which opens in April next year, launching her independent fashion brand Atelier Jolie, and working on other roles in Hollywood, namely Maria, a movie about opera icon Maria Callas, Kung Fu Panda 4 which will be released in march, a spy film, Maude v Maude and a drama titled Every Note Played.

There have been rumblings for years about a possible third Maleficent film, so understandably fans are ecstatic there’s now some confirmation it’s actually happening!

The last movie, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, was released in 2019. It starred Elle Fanning and Sam Riley. The original live-action film was released in 2014, based on the evil fairy from the 1959 animation, Sleeping Beauty.

In her interview with WSJ, Angelina also spoke about finding space to heal after her divorce from Brad Pitt, her close relationship with their children, and her hopes of eventually leaving Hollywood to move to South East Asia.

Cambodia is close to her heart because it’s where her eldest son Maddox was born.  It’s where she filmed Tomb Raider back in 2000 then returned to the country several years later to adopt him. Her connection to the country also inspired her to create her movie First They Killed My Father, based on the human rights activist Luong Ung’s memoir of living under the rule of the Khmer Rouge. Vietnam is also close to Angelina’s heart because her second eldest son, Pax was born there.
