‘Bridget Jones 4’ Confirmed: Cast, Plot, Release Date & More!

Rom-com lovers of the world, rejoice! Bridget Jones is officially heading back to our screens!

Universal Pictures and Working Title have confirmed the fourth instalment of the beloved film, titled Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, is in the works. Here’s everything we know so far:

Who will star in Bridget Jones 4?

Renée Zellweger will reprise her role as the quirky and loveable Bridget Jones – I mean, could we really have a Bridget film without her? Exactly.

Hugh Grant will return as the slimey Daniel Cleaver and Emma Thompson will return as stern Doctor Rawlings.

According to Working Title, there will be some new faces too including The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’s Chiwetel Ejiofor and One Day and The White Lotus star Leo Woodall, though their characters are still being kept under wraps.

But what about Colin Firth, you might be wondering? There is no mention of Colin returning for this film. I repeat, no Colin. But it seems there’s a very good reason why….

What will Bridget Jones 4 be about?

The film will be based on the 2013 novel by Helen Fielding, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, which follows the story of a newly widowed Bridget (yes, Mr Darcy is gone!) who is trying to re-establish herself in the dating scene as a woman in her *gasp* 50s. Through social media, she begins a flirtatious relationship with a much younger man, and well, hilarity ensues.  It’s not clear how closely the film will follow the book though.

The original film, Bridget Jones’ Diary which came out in 2001, was about Bridget’s dating and love life in her 30s. That also starred Colin Firth. And then the second and third films, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason and Bridget Jones’ Baby, kept Bridget’s story going, because yes, of course we all wanted to know what happened next!

When will Bridget Jones 4 be released?

Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy will be released in cinemas on Valentine’s Day, 2025.
