So what will the movie be about exactly? According to a release, “when Roberto (Bob) travels to the enchanting Island of Puerto Rico for a major construction job, he takes on issues affecting the island and digs deeper into what it means to build. Bob’s journey will celebrated the vibrant and colourful textures of the Caribbean Latin nations and their people.”

The original Bob the Builder TV series followed the story of a fun building contractor and his friends. Aimed at preschoolers, it shared messages about working as a team, using your imagination, choosing positivity and having the right tools, of course! The show ran for 12 seasons from 1999 to 2011.

The Bob the Builder movie joins a number of other films in development through Mattel Films including American Girl, Polly Pocket, UNO and Hot Wheels. The studio’s first theatrical release was Barbie starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera. It became the highest grossing film of 2023 and is nominated for 8 Academy Awards.
