Nicola Coughlan Joins Cast of ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’

Nicola Coughlan’s next role has been announced and it’s a magical one! She will transform into a fairy in the film adaptation of Enid Blyton’s The Magic Faraway Tree. 

The beloved Bridgerton and Derry Girls star is the latest actor to join the already stellar cast which includes Baby Reindeer’s Jessica Gunning, Spiderman’s Andrew Garfield, The Crown’s Clare Foy and Ted Lasso’s Nonso Anozie.

According to a release, Nicola will play the woodland fairy, Silky. Here’s everything we know so far:

 

 

What is The Magic Faraway Tree about?

The Magic Faraway Tree is a children’s book by the legendary Enid Blyton from the series The Faraway Tree. It follows the adventures of siblings Jo, Bessie and Frannie who discover a magical tree in the Enchanted Wood near their new home and befriend its equally magical residents.

There’s no word just yet on the official storyline for the film adaptation.

 

Who is cast in The Magic Faraway Tree?

Well, we know Nicola Coughlan is playing fairy Silky and the roles for the other cast members have been announced too. There’s Nonso Anozie who will portray group leader Moonface, Jessica Gunning who will play Dame Washalot, Dustin Demri-Burns who will be Saucepan Man, Mark Heap who will play Mr. Oom Boom Boom and Oliver Chris who will be Mr Watzisname!

Clare Foy will play Polly Thompson and Andrew Garfield will play Tim Thompson, the parents of Jo, Bessie and Frannie. We’re still waiting to hear who will play the children.

British icons Sirs Lenny Henry, Michael Palin and Simon Russell Beale have also been cast and according to Variety, will play “a trio of mystical wise men from the Land of Know-Alls.”

When will The Magic Faraway Tree movie be released?

Production is due to begin in the UK this year so we can perhaps expect a 2025 release, though nothing confirmed yet. Stay tuned!

Besides The Magic Faraway Tree, Nicola is also set to star in thriller-drama Love and War. She’ll play an Irish mum who goes to Syria amidst civil war to rescue her abducted six-year-old daughter. The film is based on real events and the book Stolen: Escape From Syria by Louise Monaghan and Yvonne Kinsella.
