Rihanna Will Voice Smurfette & Create New Music For Upcoming Smurfs Movie

Rihanna has a new gig…

The Grammy-winning superstar, founder of the Fenty empire and soon-to-be mother-of-two has been cast in the upcoming Smurfs Movie. We don’t have an official title for the film just yet but we do know she’ll be voicing our favourite blue creature, Smurfette!

The news was revealed today when RiRi made a surprise appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. She’ll also be writing and recording original songs for the movie as well as serving as producer.

“I tried to get the Papa Smurf role,” she joked on stage (as per USA Today),” but it didn’t work out.”

“I’m usually front and centre with everything, but (with) this I get to play a part and a role and I get to imagine. I get to show up in my pyjamas in my third trimester and get to play a little blue badass,” she continued adding she hopes to get some “cool points” with her kids one day!

In a press release, Ramsey Naito, president of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation, said Rihanna’s creative appeal and talent will “elevate the cultural touchstone of The Smurfs universe in a way that’s never been done before.”

Katy Perry voiced Smurfette in the 2011 film, The Smurfs, and in 2017 it was Demi Lovato in The Smurfs: The Lost Village.

This new Smurfs movie is due to be released in February 2025.
