Selena Gomez has a major new project in the works – she will star as music legend Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic!
Rolling Stone confirmed the news after Selena posted an Insta story of Linda’s 2013 memoir, Simple Dreams.
The project is currently in pre-production and according to a note shared on the website of John Boylan, Linda’s manager, Selena recently “spent a few hours at Linda’s home discussing the project and getting to know each other.”
John will also serve as producer alongside James Keach who has worked on a number of music-related biopics including Walk the Line about Johnny Cash. There’s no word yet on who else will be attached to the project.

Linda, a trailblazer for women in the rock scene, rose to fame in the 70s and 80s with songs like “You’re No Good” and “I Can’t Help It (If I’m Still In Love With You)”. She has earned 11 GRAMMYs and, according to her website, was the first female performer to have 4 back-to-back platinum albums. She eventually went on to have 8 consecutive platinum albums, with 14 certified platinum in total.
Selena, a Golden Globe and Emmy nominee, is currently working on her fourth studio album after releasing Rare in 2020. She’s also continuing her role as Mabel in the hit series Only Murders in the Building with co-stars Steve Martin and Martin Short, running her Rare Beauty empire as well as mental health platform Wondermind.
There had been lots of talk that Selena might be taking on the biopic since August last year when she posted a quote by Linda on Instagram, “The smell of the carpet in a hotel room is the same everywhere,” but nothing had been confirmed, until today!
