The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy has shared her cover of Petula Clark’s 1960s tune “Downtown” and what can I say except… prepare to be wowed!
The song is from the actress’s upcoming horror film, Last Night in Soho, and it’s a little moody, a little sultry and very, very moving.
The accompanying video is equally mesmerising and features the 25-year-old star singing in a studio in between footage of an orchestra and scenes from the movie. See for yourself!
“It’s not every day you’re asked to record several versions of an iconic song,” she posted on Instagram.
“The sounds of the 60s was what firs made me fall in love with music so I was overjoyed when Edgar [Wright, filmmaker] asked me to give it a go.”
Starring alongside Anya in the film is Thomasin McKenzie, Matt Smith, Terence Stamp and Diana Rigg.
It’s due out on October 22.
