Diddy Announces His First Solo Album in 17 Years

Sean “Diddy” Combs (who also goes by “Love”), is releasing a new album, 17 years after his last one!

The rapper, producer, record executive and philanthropist has announced his latest project, The Love Album: Off the Grid, will come out on September 15. Posting a 3-minute and 45-second trailer for the album on social media, he declares, “R&B is alive!” before explaining his purpose:

“Why am I doing this? You know what I’m saying? Especially with the success that I’ve had, especially where my life is, how stressful and treacherous this music industry is? Why would I come back in here and have to do something that I don’t have to do?”

He answers his own question, saying “My heart has been broken. I still got that question of like, ‘Am I gonna love again?'” later adding, “We in the love era. That’s the frequency that I’m asking you to be a part of.”

The clip shows footage of him hanging out with rapper Yung Miami, dancing with his late ex-girlfriend, model and actor Kim Porter, who passed away in 2018, as well as his 10-month-old daughter Love Sean Combs whom he shares with cybersecurity expert Dana Tran. It also documents his creative process with behind-the-scenes footage in his studios.

While the official tracklist hasn’t been released yet, the clip identifies collaborations with some pretty big names including Justin Bieber, The Weeknd, Mary J. Blige, DJ Khaled, Busta Rhymes and more.

This new album marks Diddy’s first solo project since his 2006 album Press Play which included hits ‘Tell Me’ with Christina Aguilera and ‘Last Night’ with Keyshia Cole. He has released other singles since then, but they’ve always been collaborations with others including Guy Gerber and MMM.
