For years, we’ve all been wondering who John Mayer was singing about in his hit 2001 song “Your Body is a Wonderland” – and now we know!
Speaking to Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, the musician revealed that it wasn’t about any of his famous exes at all, but rather his first love in high school:
“That was about my first girlfriend. That was about the feeling, which I think was already sort of nostalgic,” he says, choosing not to name her.
“I was 21 when I wrote that song and I was nostalgic for being 16.”
Alex responded that she, like many of us, believed the Grammy-winning song was about a celebrity. And giving the timing of its release, there’s been a lot of speculation over the years that it may’ve been about John’s ex, actor Jennifer Love Hewitt.
“No, that’s one of those things where people just sort of formed that idea. It gets reinforced over the years. No, no, no, I had never met a celebrity when I wrote that song.”
And just like that, the 20-year mystery is solved!
