Lil Nas X Just Gave “Birth” To His Debut Album, “Montero”

When he hit the music scene with “Old Town Road” a few years ago, many dismissed Lil Nas X as a one-hit wonder. But with five platinum singles, countless awards and nominations and now his debut album “Montero.” he’s proving a whole lotta people wrong…and a whole lotta believers right!

An album he gave birth to it, by the way. Yes, you might remember he spent all last week teasing the whole thing using a pregnancy-theme complete with a pregnancy photo shoot and baby shower. And there was an actual “delivery” of the album in his latest social media post:

Very clever.

And that’s just a taste of the wild, soaring creativity he gives us with the actual music on his album:

From howling “I want someone to love me” in the song “That’s What I Want” – which can I just say, is bound to become an iconic musical moment in his career – to calling out the haters in “One of Me” and teaming up with the likes of Elton John, Megan Thee Stallion and Doja Cat, he’s got a flair and energy like no other.

The album also features his massive singles “Montero (Call Me by Your Name), Sun Goes Down” and “Industry Baby.”

And of course, he’s dividing the internet, because, well, he’s Lil Nas X: an unapologetic queer, Black man who rocks pop, hip hop, country and rap genres and does it with such mesmerising confidence.

Interestingly, the album ends with a ballad, “Am I Dreaming,” featuring Miley Cyrus and we hear him sing words like, “Never forget me and everything I’ve done.”

Oh, we won’t Lil Nas. We won’t.

The album is out now on all streaming services and you can check out the video for “That’s What I Want” below:
