Taylor Swift’s latest single is finally here!
The superstar has released ‘Carolina’, the haunting piece that features in the upcoming film Where the Crawdads Sing starring Daisy Edgar-Jones, which is being released July 15. (We did get a little taste of ‘Carolina’ when the trailer came out a few weeks ago but now it’s here in full!)
“About a year & half ago I wrote a song about the story of a girl who always lived on the outside, looking in,” Taylor shares on Twitter.
“Figuratively & literally. The juxtaposition of her loneliness & independence. Her curiosity & fear all tangled up. Her persisting gentleness & the world’s betrayal of it.”

“I wrote this one alone in the middle of the night and then @aarondessner and I meticulously worked on a sound that we felt would be authentic to the moment when this story takes place. I made a wish that one day you would hear it. ‘Carolina’ is out now.”
Producer Aaron Dessner and Taylor have collaborated many times before including on her ‘Folklore’ album.
After the Crawdads trailer came out, Taylor shared on Instagram that she “got absolutely lost” in the book by Delia Owens.
“As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side,” Taylor wrote.
“I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerising story.”
And she certainly did! Check it out below:
