Rihanna’s Foundation Helps Recovery Efforts in the Bahamas

Rihanna said she would help the people of the Bahamas after Hurricane Dorian devastated the region – and she’s sticking to her promise.

The superstar’s non-profit organisation, The Clara Lionel Foundation, has announced two emergency grants to help with relief efforts on the ground.

The first grant has been sent to World Central Kitchen founded by chef José Andres. Due to blackouts and flooding, the team has had no choice but to prepare meals in Nassau and fly them to the northern Bahamas.

They estimate there are tens of thousands of people who have no access to food or clean water right now. With the help of Rihanna’s foundation and other major donors, they’ve been able to deliver over 13 thousand meals daily to those in need.

The second grant is going to Direct Relief who are delivering emergency health kits after the hurricane knocked out electricity on the Abaco Islands and flooded the hospital.

With communication down, it’s difficult to know exactly what supplies are needed, but teams have been delivering packages by boat, containing medical supplies and medication.

The Clara Lionel Foundation was founded by Rihanna in 2012 (think Diamonds era) in honour of her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. It has supported survivors of Hurricanes Harvey, Maria and Irma and continues to work with communities in the Caribbean to prepare for future natural disasters. The charity also supports education for children around the world.
