Celebs Wear Blue Ribbons to the Oscars to Show Support for Refugees

Stars have walked the red carpet at the 94th Academy Awards and I couldn’t help but notice some of them were wearing blue ribbons with their glamorous outfits.

So, I did a little digging and the ribbons, seen on Jamie Lee Curtis, Samuel L. Jackson, Diane Warren, Youn Yuh-jung and more, each share the hashtag “#WithRefugees” in yellow writing.

They were distributed in partnership with the UNHCR to bring more awareness to the current refugee crisis – more than 3 million people have fled Ukraine due to war and there are over 82 million other global refugees.

Speaking to the Associated Press, Jamie Lee Curtis said “it’s an incredible important moment, given what’s happening in Ukraine, the displacement of human beings in the world, the exodus of human beings.”

The UNHCR shared the hashtag earlier today along with an image of an Oscar with the words “refugee advocate” written across it. They captioned the image: “And the Oscar for the best refugee advocate goes to…everyone who stands #WithRefugees. Thank you for your kindness.”

Dune’s Jason Momoa was spotted wearing a blue and yellow scarf with his suit on the red carpet, which is also believed to be a tribute to the people of Ukraine.
