Gigi Hadid is showing her support for the millions of men, women and children impacted by war.
The supermodel has announced she’ll be taking the lead of fellow Argentinian runway star Mica Argañaraz, who recently pledged to donate her modelling earnings to help the people of Ukraine following Vladimir Putin’s Russian-led invasion of the country.
In a post on Instagram, Gigi explained that she’ll also be donating her earnings from her Fall/Winter 2022 fashion shows to relief efforts not only in Ukraine but also Palestine.
“Having a set Fashion Month schedule has meant that my colleagues and I often present new fashion collections during heartbreaking and traumatic times in history,” Gigi writes.
“We don’t have control over most of our work schedules, but we would like to walk ‘for’ something.”
Gigi, who has walked runways for luxury designers in New York, Milan and Paris this season alone, didn’t specify which organisations she would be supporting.
She did end her post with a powerful message for her 72.7 million followers:
“Our eyes and hearts must be open to all human injustice. May we all see each other as brothers and sisters, beyond politics, beyond race, beyond religion. At the end of the day, innocent lives pay for war – not leaders. HANDS OFF UKRAINE. HANDS OFF PALESTINE. PEACE. PEACE. PEACE.”
In early March, Mica had taken to her Instagram stories explaining how “it feels really weird walking into fashion shows knowing there’s a war on the same continent.”
She urged her friends and fellow models to consider contributing and helping in some way.
