Eva Longoria, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez and more sign open letter to show support for Latinx community.

J-Lo, Ricky, Eva, Salma and More Sign Letter of Solidarity For Latinx Community

Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Salma Hayek-Pinault and Eva Longoria-Baston are among over 200 Latinx entertainers and activists who’ve signed a letter of solidarity for their Latinx community. It’s a letter of love and hope after weeks of ICE raids tearing immigrant families apart and the El Paso mass shooting which claimed the lives of 22 innocent people and injured many more.

“If you are feeling terrified, heartbroken and defeated by the barrage of attacks on our community, you are not alone,” the letter begins.

Published in The New York Times as well as a number of Spanish publications including El Nuevo Herald and El Diario, the letter is titled “Querida Familia Latina” which translates to “beloved Latinx family.”

“We have been smeared by political rhetoric and murdered in violent hate crimes,” it reads. “We have been separated from our families and have watched our children caged. We have been targeted with mass shootings and mass ICE raids meant to terrify us, squash our hope and break our spirits. But we will not be broken.”

Other big names who’ve signed the letter include Selena Gomez, Gina Rodriguez, Wilmer Valderrama and Zoe Saldana.

Actress America Ferrera who’s also signed, tells MSNBC “it’s so easy to be overwhelmed with the bad news, to be so heartbroken, so devastated, and even numbed to what is happening to human beings in our country at this moment….we have to fight through that.”

The letter was created by founder of Justice for Migrant Women, Mónica Ramírez who says in a statement, “This message is not about policy or political parties. It is about human decency and care.”
