Lizzo is processing the immense impact her music and representation in pop culture is having on the world – and she’s feeling all the feels!
The superstar and self-love advocate has shared an emotional message of gratitude on TikTok, after watching a video of a young Black girl dancing confidently to her song “About Damn Time”.
“You never think that when you’re making music that you’ll have an effect on people or have an impact on people’s lives,” she says as tears stream down her face.
“This is like, literally why I do it.”
The video is one of thousands of which have been shared online of people joyously dancing to her songs.
“I’m so grateful that people take my music and do good things with it. It makes them move, it makes them dance, it makes them happy, it makes them feel confidence in themselves.”
The 3-time Grammy winner ends her message by saying she doesn’t care about the accolades or the numbers because it’s the impact that matters most.
“That video is my Grammy right there,” she says, referring to the young girl dancing. “That is my award and I’m so grateful.”
In a message on Twitter, she adds: “This is why my purpose is Representation – because it Matters.”
