Buckingham Palace Shares Health Update: King Charles “Doing Well”

Buckingham Palace has shared an update on King Charles III’s health, saying he’s “doing well” after undergoing a medical procedure.

The 75-year-old monarch was admitted to the London Clinic for an enlarged prostate on Friday. A statement from the Palace reads:

“His Majesty would like to thank all those who have sent their good wishes over the past week and is delighted to learn that his diagnosis is having a positive impact on public health awareness.”

On January 17, the Palace shared the King’s condition was benign but he would be having the corrective procedure done, just like many thousands of men each year. In the aftermath of the announcement, both the UK’s National Health Service and the nonprofit, Prostate Cancer UK said there was a surge in visits to their sites searching for information about prostate cancer and using the free “online risk checker” tools.

The London Clinic is also where Catherine, Princess of Wales is currently recovering from abdominal surgery. Though the reasons for her operation have not been disclosed, Kensington Palace did share that “the surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for 10 to 14 days, before returning home to continue her recovery.”

According to the Palace, the Princess of Wales is unlikely to return to public duties until Easter. Their announcement also requested privacy during her recovery:

“The Princess of Wales appreciates the interest this statement will generate. She hopes that the public will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible; and her wish that her personal medical information remains private. Kensington Palace will, therefore, only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”
