Buckingham Palace has released official images from the Coronation of King Charles III.
The ceremony took place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday morning, UK time, with members of the monarchy, church and state as well as dignitaries from around the world coming together for the historic event.
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, placed St. Edward’s Crown on King Charles’ head, whilst Queen Camilla, who was also crowned during the event wore Queen Mary’s Crown. After the ceremony, they traveled back to Buckingham Palace in the Gold State Coach, a giltwood carriage not only used by the late Queen Elizabeth II on her Coronation day in 1953 but also at every coronation since William IV’s in 1831!
They appeared on the Palace balcony with other members of the royal family including the Prince and Princess of Wales where they waved to crowds and observed a flypast:
