King Charles to Resume Public Duties as Health Improves

Buckingham Palace has shared an update about the health of King Charles III.

According to their statement, the King is making encouraging progress as he undergoes treatment for cancer, though it is still “too early to say” how long his treatment will continue. The palace added that King Charles will return to attending public engagements next week.

“His Majesty The King will shortly return to public-facing duties after a period of treatment and recuperation following his recent cancer diagnosis. To help mark this milestone, The King and Queen will make a joint visit to a cancer treatment centre next Tuesday, where they will meet medical specialists and patients. This visit will be the first in a number of ecternal engagements His Majesty will undertake in the weeks ahead.”

The statement continues, “In addition, The King and Queen will host Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan for a State visit in June, at the request of HM Government.”

The message was accompanied by a portrait of King Charles and Queen Camilla, smiling while walking together outdoors.

King Charles was admitted to hospital in February this year for an enlarged prostate. Soon after, the Palace shared that he would be undergoing treatment for cancer (the type has not been specified). Meantime, Catherine, Princess of Wales was also admitted to hospital at the same time for a “planned abdominal surgery”. She has since shared that she too, is undergoing preventative chemotherapy for cancer.

The Palace’s message concluded, “As the first anniversary of The Coronation approaches, Their Majesties remain deeply grateful for the many kindness and good wishes they have received from around the world throughout the joys and challenges of the past year.”

It’s unclear whether King Charles will be able to attend any overseas engagements in the coming months.
