Jonah Hill has an empowering message for kids who’ve ever felt embarrassed or insecure about their bodies, like he has.
In a post on Instagram, the Hollywood star shared a screenshot of a tabloid article which featured a photo of him at a Malibu beach, wearing no top.
Captioning the post, he explains that he never took his shirt off in a pool until he was in his mid 30s, “even in front of family and friends.”

He continues: “Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by press and interviewers. So the idea that the media tries to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this and it can’t phase me anymore is dope.”
He explains that now, at the age of 37, he loves and accepts himself just as he is.
“This isn’t a ‘good for me’ post. And it’s definitely not a ‘feel bad for me’ post. It’s for the kids who don’t take their shirt off at the pool.”

He ends with some encouraging words for anyone who may be feeling what he’s felt:
“Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect. All my love.”
And yes, he had a message for the tabloid that posted the photos too:
“Oh and Daily Mail, not even you can take that smile from my face ;)”
Boom.
