Tennis legend Serena Wiliams is heading to Wimbledon!
The All England Club has announced that Serena’s been awarded a wildcard entry for the singles draw which will mark her return to grand-slam tennis for the first time in a year.
You might remember, she injured herself in her first-round match at Wimbledon last year and hasn’t played in any top-level tournaments since.
It means she’s currently 1,208th in the WTA rankings, explaining why she wasn’t automatically placed in the comp this year.
Serena confirmed the news on Instagram earlier, sharing a pic of her white shoes on a grass court:

She captioned it: “SW and SW19. It’s a date. 2022. See you there. Let’s Go.”
The SW refers to her own initials and SW19, the postcode for Wimbledon.
The 23-time grand slam champion was among a number of women given a wildcard spot in the upcoming singles draw including Yuriko Miyazaki, Katie Boulter and Katie Swan.
