A ‘Legally Blonde’ Spinoff TV Series is Coming!

A Legally Blonde spinoff TV series is officially happening!

Yes, 20 years after Reese Witherspoon graced our screens as Elle Woods in the original film, her production company Hello Sunshine has announced the news:

“OMIGOD YOU GUYS!!!!!” the company posted on socials.

“We’re bringing Legally Blonde back to your screens in a spinoff TV series inspired by the film! Currently in development with Amazon MGM Studios, the project has tapped Gossip Girl and The O.C. vets Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage to write. Stay tuned for more details as we have them.”

So what’s the series going to be about, who will star in it and perhaps most importantly, will Reese bring back her iconic character?

All that info is being kept tightly under wraps for the time being, but as first reported by Deadline, we do know Reese will be involved in the new Legally Blonde TV series as a producer.

The very first Legally Blonde film, which also stars Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair, Luke Wilson and Linda Cardellini, was released in 2001 and follows the story of a fashion-loving sorority girl who tries to win back her ex – who doesn’t think she’s a good enough partner to support his ambitions as a senator – by going to law school. She ends up at Harvard and finds herself involved in an important legal case.

The movie was such a hit (and has become a classic for early 2000s film fans) that a sequel titled Red, White & Blonde, was released soon after, as well as a musical adaptation. In 2009, a spinoff series called Legally Blondes aired on the Disney Channel.
