‘Legally Blonde’ Spinoff Series Will Be About Teenage Elle Woods

Last month, we learned a Legally Blonde spinoff series was in the works at Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine – and now we know it’ll be a prequel about a young Elle Woods!

What, like it’s hard? Not for the powerhouse that is Ms. Witherspoon who will serve as executive producer, and has teamed up with Prime Video to bring the project to fruition.

“I truly couldn’t be more excited about this series! Fans will get to know how Elle Woods navigated her world as a teenager with her distinct personality and ingenuity, in ways that only our beloved Elle could do. What could be better than that?” Reese shared in a press release.

“I’m extremely grateful to the incredible teams at Prime Video and Hello Sunshine – along with our amazing writer Laura Kitrell – for making this dream of mine come true. Legally Blonde is back!”

Reese also confirmed the news in a social media post sharing a clip of herself wearing a pink suit and announcing the prequel series on stage:

She captioned the video: “Before she became the most famous Gemini vegetarian to graduate from Harvard Law, she was just a regular ‘90s high school girl. And all of you are going to get to know her, next year on Prime Video. I’M SO EXCITED!”

What Will the Legally Blonde spinoff series be called?

The new series will be called Elle!

What will the series be about?

Elle will follow Elle Woods’ journey through high school as well as the life experiences that shaped her into the iconic young woman we all came to know in the Legally Blonde films. So far, that’s all Prime Video is telling us!

You might remember, the very first Legally Blonde film, released in 2001, followed the story of a fashion-loving sorority girl who tries to impress and ultimately win back her ex by going to law school. She ends up at Harvard and finds herself involved in an important legal case.

Who will star in the new series?

The series is yet to cast a teenage Elle Woods, and there’s no word yet on who else will be taking part. The original film starred Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Coolidge, Selma Blair, Luke Wilson and Linda Cardellini – so here’s hoping for a few cameos!
