He will star as Romeo, and we’re still waiting to find out who will play Juliet.

In a statement to media, Lloyd said: “Tom Holland is one of the greatest, most exciting young actors in the world. It is an honour to welcome him back to the West End.”

That’s right, back to the West End! You might remember, the 27-year-old star first appeared on stage as a child in Billy Elliot The Musical. That was in 2008 when he was just 12!

The new show will run from May 11 until August 3, 2024 at the Duke of York Theatre in London.

Tom most recently starred in and produced The Crowded Room for AppleTV+ where he portrayed Danny Sullivan, a man arrested for a shocking crime in New York City in the 70s. The thriller was based on the real-life crimes of a man named Billy Milligan who was diagnosed with dissociative identity disorder.

After its release, Tom described the intensity of playing the role to Extra – and announced a temporary break from acting to focus on his mental health: “We were exploring certain emotions that I have definitely never experienced before. And then on top of that, being a producer, dealing with the day-to-day kind of problems that come with any film set just added that extra level of pressure but I really enjoyed it.”

He added, “I loved the learning curve of becoming a producer, I’m no stranger to hard work. I’ve always sort of lived by this idea that hard work is good work and I really enjoyed it. But then again, the show did break me. There did come a time where I was sort of like, I need to have a break. I disappeared. I went to Mexico for a week, and had some time on a beach and lay low and I’m now taking a year off and that is a result of how difficult this show was.”
