‘Outlander’ Will End After Season 8 (But a Prequel Series is Coming!)

The eighth and final season of Outlander has officially been confirmed but thankfully for fans of the time-travelling, historical drama, a prequel series is on its way!

Starz shared the news in a video posted to social media featuring the cast:

“Every good story has to come to an end,” says actor Sam Heughan who portrays Jamie Fraser.

“It always does,” adds Caitríona Balfe, who stars as Claire Fraser, before Young Ian (John Bell) pipes in:

“We’re going to go out with a bang, and tell the story how it should be.”

The teaser ends with Heughan saying “we can’t wait to bring the last season to you guys” and Balfe hoping “we do you proud.”

The final season will be based on the eighth book by author Diana Gabaldon, titled “Written in My Own Heart’s Blood.”

“For nearly a decade, Outlander has won the hearts of audiences worldwide and we’re pleased to bring CLiare and Jamie’s epic love story to a proper conclusion,” Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz shared.

“But before we close this chapter there is plenty of their passionate story to tell over the course of 26 new episodes and even more to explore of this dynamic world and its origin story.”

Starz has also officially green-lit the prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood which will follow the story of Jamie’s parents, Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie.
