“Hello and goodbye.” – Tom Holland has returned to social media but he’s not staying online for long.
The Spider-Man star who hadn’t posted on Instagram since early July, explained that he’s taking a break from the platform to preserve his mental health and is only making a brief return to highlight the work of UK mental health charity stem4:
“I find Instagram and Twitter to be overstimulating, to be overwhelming,” the actor shared in a video. “I get caught up and I spiral when I read things about me online and ultimately, it’s very detrimental to my mental state.”
During the clip, he explains that his organisation, The Brothers Trust, is selling merchandise to support stem4 and their efforts to educate and empower youth who might be struggling too.
“Stem4 is a wonderfully innovative education program. Its pioneering apps, clinically advised website, and its mental health conferences help contribute towards helping young kids who were suffering.”
Tom shared details about the apps which he says he’s used himself and he hopes others might try.
“There is an awful stigma against mental health and I know that asking for help and seeking help isn’t something that we should be ashamed of, but it is something that is much easier said than done. So hopefully these apps can be your first step towards being happier and healthier.”
Tom is currently in New York, filming The Crowded Room which will be released on Apple TV+. You can watch his full video message below:
