Barbie director Greta Gerwig recently celebrated her 40th trip around the sun and she received the best birthday present EVER from Ryan Gosling!
The actor, who stars as Ken in the film, sent Greta a flash mob of Barbies and Kens.
Yes, a flash mob! According to footage shared by the official BarbieTheFilm TikTok account, people dressed as the dolls turned up to the pilates studio where Greta was working out on Friday and they began pulling out some plastic fantastic moves. Of course, the Kens danced to the song Ryan’s character sings in the film, “I’m Just Ken”, which FYI, debuted at no. 87 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, while the Barbies performed to Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night.”

As you can imagine, Greta could not contain her surprise, or laughter, or tears!

Barbie which was written by both Greta Gerwig and her partner Noah Baumbach, is currently the highest grossing film made by a female director in history. The movie had an epic opening weekend at the box office – US$155 million, and that was only in North America. Worldwide it had an opening weekend of US$365 million and at the time of writing, is about to cross the US$1 billion mark!
While Greta was creating the film – and going on the most epic world press tour with Margot Robbie, America Ferrera and more – she also welcomed a baby boy.
In an interview with Elle U.K. covering Greta’s professional and creative journey behind Barbie, the filmmaker described the new addition to her family as “a little Schmoo” and “wise little baby” who sleeps well. Greta and Noah are already parents to 4-year-old son Harold, and Noah has a 13-year-old son, Rohmer, from his previous relationship too.
