Jamie Spears’ Petition To End Britney’s Conservatorship Now Officially Filed With the Court

Jamie Spears, the father of superstar Britney Spears, has officially filed to end his daughter’s conservatorship – but as with most things related to this case, it’s not as straight forward as it sounds. She isn’t “free” just yet…but she’s getting there!

According to court documents filed with the Los Angeles County Superior Court, the petition states that Britney may be “entitled to have this Court now seriously consider whether this conservatorship is no longer required” and suggests it’s in the Court’s power to determine whether there’s any need for a psychiatric evaluation before this is done.

Which, side note, is a very clever move on Jamie’s part because he would no longer take the blame for keeping Britney under the control of the conservatorship if Judge Brenda Penny were to decide there’s a reason to keep it going, right?

The document details that Britney basically wants her life back – and to make decisions for herself:

“She wants to be able to make decisions regarding her own medical care, deciding when, where and how often to get therapy. She wants to control the money she has made from her career and spend it without supervision or oversight. She wants to be able to get married and have a baby, is she so chooses. In short, she wants to live her life as she chooses without the constraints of a conservator or court proceedings,” Jamie’s attorney, Vivian Thoreen writes in the petition.

“As Mr Spears has said again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter. If Ms Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr Spears believes that she should get that chance.”

Jamie did suggest he would be willing to step down as conservator last month “when the time is right,” while still petitioning the court to not end the conservatorship. Make of that what you will.

And now we have this?

It’s all very sudden. And it’s unclear why Jamie is willing to completely let go now.

Either way, Britney’s new legal team sees it as “a massive legal victory” for the superstar because it shows that “Mr Spears has now effectively surrendered” (as per a statement to NBC).

The petition comes ahead of the next case hearing on September 29.
