Dwayne Johnson Announces Live-Action ‘Moana’ is in the Works!

Another live-action remake is happening at Disney and this time it’s Moana!

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has announced the news to his 372 million followers on Instagram, after Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the project during a shareholder’s meeting.

“This story is my culture, and this story is emblematic of our people’s grace and warrior strength,” he captions a video featuring his daughters on a beach in Hawaii.

“I wear this culture proudly on my skin and in my soul, and this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reunite with Maui, inspired by the mana and spirit of my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia, is one that runs very deep for me.”

In the clip, The Rock explains that we can expect all our favourites to appear in the film including Gramma Tala, the pig, Heihei the chicken and of course Maui, which was originally voiced by Dwayne himself.

He doesn’t share any further details, as he says, it’s still early days.

The film will be produced by The Rock, his collaborators Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia as well as Beau Flynn and Auli’i Cravalho, who voiced Moana’s character in the original 2016 animated production.

Auli’i shared her excitement about the project on social media too: “Moana has had such a profound impact on how we think of Disney princesses. Moana’s strength and perseverance are inspiring – to audiences around the world, to me and to everyone who helped bring her to life. I’m looking forward to sharing her story in a whole new way.”
